Pitch Feedback

Pitch Feedback.

Getting feedback on my Pitch has helped me decide of several different things like; my target audience, what age i'm selling my magazine too, the colours and a magazine name.

From my pitch people knew that my magazine is going to be very mainstream, pop music, featuring bands like Little Mix, One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. I'd be having bright colours, and a targeted audience towards a younger age group, going from high school to about 21 year olds. I'd be selling my magazine in local supermarkets, whsmiths, having it very accessible. My magazine name is going to be short but loud. Something that isn't to boring but isn't to long.

I still need to decide on a magazine name and the institution of my magazine. Also I wont know the colours of my magazine until i've taken the pictures, to see what they come out like.

This week we started work on our final magazine. We started the research and planning so we could get more ideas to help us with the final thing. I looked on coverjunkie which gave me a lot of ideas and there were a lot of magazines which I like. I also typed into google front covers of magazines and a lot came up. I liked the layout of billboard magazine. Ive decided to have my magazine genre as pop.

Magazine Front Covers

I like how well the colours contrast together. Her bright hair makes the magazine stand out well because it contrasts well with the other white bold title. They've used the brightness of her hair to have white writing on so that it stands out clearer to the audience. The main title it position well in the corner, although it covers some of her face it blends in well with the colour of her hair.

Magazines Double Page Spread;

 I like the idea of the picture shots at the side of the magazine. Its very indie themed and vintage. The colour scheme is too dark for me and the genre of my magazine. The purple and blacks suggest thats its probably a rock magazine, but also from the photos and how the artist is dressed you can tell. I don't like  how the article has been positioned onto the double page spread, but I think that the picture shots down the right hand side of the page look effective. They've placed the pull quote well over the main picture of the artist, which draws your eyes to the top left hand side of the page. The photos have been very well thought about, and the effects on them make the magazine look bold and bright. You can tell a lot of time and effort has been put into the photos and how the artists have to be dressed, the scenery and props.

I really like this double page spread. How the larger picture of her is in colour and the rest is in black and white. They're different action shots which i think are very creative and unique. I like the style of the writing because there isnt too much written on there. The colours blend well together and it doesnt look too boring. I love how the article has been spread out across the two pages with her in the middle of it. The pull quote looks very neat down the outside of her. I like how its been put in bold as well, which would draw the reader to read that, which would then make them want to read the whole article. The colour scheme is very simple, but they all contrast well together. The pink on her dress makes her stand out from all of the writing and other pictures. The outfit she's wearing isn't something i'd like my artist to wear, however it works well on the artist for this double page spread, and because they've used different action shots in the back, it makes her look all pretty and sweet which is the look i'm going for in my magazine. I like the font of the writing for the article, its bold enough to be able to read and isn't too boring or too much. This double page spread doesn't have a title, which is quite different as most of them do, but I like that they've just used a small paragraph to introduce the whole article and the artist they're writing about.

I don't really like how the double spread has been laid out, however I do like the font and writing. The colour scheme isn't something which i'd pick out for my double page spread. I think the grey makes the page look quite dull and boring to look at.  Although the pull quotes in white really stand out against the grey background which draws your eyes to them. The speech bubbles and how they've got parts of the interview bigger, which attracts an audience to read it. Which these are another pull quote from the interview, as they've used the bigger pull quote as the title, which I like about layout of the magazine. The outfits they're wearing are clothes which they wear daily.

 The photo on the right hand side of the page is good and i like how its got a lot of focus on that side, but the writing is all small and squished on one page. I love the colour scheme of this double page spread, its probably the colours which i'd like on mine. The pink writing really stands out, and makes the page looked girly and pretty, which is definitely the look i'm going for. I like the font and the size on the title, and how its been slanted. Its a pull quote from the interview as the title, which is possibly something I might look into for my final magazine double page spread. The size of the first letter is too big and looks out of proportion. I like the idea of highlighting key sections in the interview, could draw the readers attention and make them want to read the article. I really like the having different colours for the question and answer. The picture in the middle of the article is a picture of her on a red carpet I think, which could be wear some of the question were asked. The pink shapes which have been placed around the two pages look affective and style up the pages a bit and make the white background look less boring. Cher Lloyds outfit suits the genre well, and I like the the colour of the clothes, they work well with the colours used for the writing. She has been dressed like a pop star and her pose is very cheesy and cheeky. They've used the whole of the right hand side page of a picture of her, which is what I plan to do with my double page spread.

I like the colour scheme of this magazine. They all work really well together, they contrast well and the blue, yellow and pink all stand out on the white background. There isn't enough writing on the page, and there are photos of other artists on the double page spread. I think it looks more like a contents page on the right hand side, as the writing isn't really wrote in the style on an article. I think for my final double page spread, i'm going to stick to have just one photo of my artist, which coves the whole page on one side. Kelly has been dressed appropriately for the style the magazine is going for, I like how she's doing something with her hands in both of the photos. Again the photos look very pretty and girley, which is the look I want. Your attention is drawn to the photo of the left hand side page, which is what I want. The layout is simple but not boring.

Magazine Contents Pages

 I particuarly like this contents page. The colour scheme blends well together. Its very simple and has used the picture to take main focus on the page. Their isnt much writing, but theres enough to make it well detailed. I like how she's stood in the centre of the page, it draws attention to her. Theres a main quote from an interview on the page in the left hand corner, which i like a lot as well.
 This contents page is too detalied for me and if i was to buy this magazine i'd find the contents page quite boring. The colour scheme is boring and theres not much of a range. All of the fonts the same, and it everything looks like its all been crammed onto the one page.
 I like the style of this contents page, its again very simple. The picture takes the main focus and attracts the audience towards her. I like how the wrtting is just down one side, and its not too detailed. Its very indie/pop style which is the style of magazine i'm going for.
I like the layout of this contents page, but not the writting and how the numbers are wirtten and laid out. The colours are very indie themed and this style would work well for my contents page. Its quite simple and not too detailed.

Magazine Front Covers

I really like this cover, the colours really work well together. I like how she's been placed right in the centre on the magazine, and her head covering part of the main title. Its very simple and plain, but bold enough to appeal to an audience. I like the use of text around the side and the range in colours. Everything looks straight and symmertical.

Magazine Front Covers

I like this magazine because the colours stand out and it appeals to me. Its quite different to normal magazines as the colours and backgrounds are quite bold then dull. I like the way in which the writing has been placed at the bottom of the page. How Ed Sheeran is stood is attractive and appeals me to read the magazine.

This photo attracts me because its very original and unique. I look the style of the image and how he's been placed in the center of the photo and all of the colours in the photo go well together.

I enjoy listening pop/indie music for example Ed Sheeran. His voice and range of music appeals to me and the instrument which he plays is guitar. I like how he writes his own songs and what his songs are all based on. I'd like to base my magazine around his style of music and a pop/indie genre.

Magazine Front Covers

This dislike this cover because of how dull and dark it is. It looks quite sinister and appeals more to an older audience. Although the covers do match together and the title of the magazine stands out, i think it could of had more of a colour range or brighter colours to make it more appealing.

Magazine Front Covers;

This magazine appeals to me because the colors stand out as they're bright and bold and the color scheme goes well together. Her makeup is done differently both sides, which looks effective as a front cover. The colour scheme really works well on the front cover, because of her hair is red/orange they've used contrasting colours on her face/body and nails so that it all blends well in together. The covering of the eye with a picture of an eye really stands out to me and is one of the main reasons it stood out to me. Her eye contact is straight forward and also her facial expression are dull, but this is what I like about it. If the women was in mid action shot or smiling they'd be too much detail on the front. The writing on the magazine stands out because of the colors from her hair. They contrast well with all the other colours, and I really like the front as well, its not to simple but not to over the top. I think the barcode though would look better placed someone else or in a different colour.

Magazine Front Covers

Magazine Front Covers

The layout of this magazine is simple but effective. The color scheme works well together and although it stands out it appeals to me. The title of the magazine is bold and stands out well, which can attract the audience. I particularly like the font of the main title, because its bold and clear for a reader to see. The sub title uses the colour of the background and the girl in the middle to contrast well so that it goes over her. How she is stood is simple, but she isn't facing the magazine straight on, but everything is symmetrical making the magazine look neat.

Evaluation Of Prelim.

Evaluation of prelim.

How does your prelim represent particular social groups?

My prelim presents a particular social group, and that group being drama/dance students. The title of the magazine is called ‘Stage’ which straight away links into performing arts. “Dance Show” was written in bold letters representing the particular social group. I think the magazine would appeal to dance and drama students as that’s what its based on.

Who would be the intended audience for your product?

The intended audience for my product would be teenagers, from year 9 and above. Its aimed at performing arts students, girls and camp boys. As the magazine is based on dance and drama is it intended for that type of audience.

How did you attract/address your audience?

The title of my magazine was bold and stood out well, also I think the photo of Sophie really stood out too. The stuck to having a small color scheme so that my magazine went well together and the writing all stood out. I had “Dance Show” in bold writing, which attracts an audience but also address to the reader what my magazine is on.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I’ve learnt the basics on photo shop, and I understand how to use different editing techniques on there to adjust different things on my magazine. Also how to use different effects and styles to make the magazine look a lot better. The front cover photo also needs to attract an audience and stand out, because this is what can appeal to a reader.

Preliminary Magazine

Week 2;

This week we started work on our preliminary work of a school magazine. We took several different photos;

We then worked on the magazine for a couple of lessons, until it was completed. We had to come up with a name, and writing to put on the front cover and contents pages. As the photo which I decided to use as my front cover had part of the head cut off, I had to put a banner at the top which I didnt want to do. I reflected on this for when I took my photos for the final thing.

I choose Sophie because she does Dance inside school and drama outside and I felt out of the group she was best suited for the front cover of my preliminary magazine as it was based on Dance and Drama. She wore her hair dance and wore a plain top with a colourful scarf, which I took the colours from to use on my front cover and contents page.
